The Pride of Paterson
We invite you to listen to the powerful oral histories of Patersonians who lived Hinchliffe Stadium’s remarkable story. Hinchliffe is one of the few remaining ballparks that once hosted Negro League baseball and was home to legendary Hall of Famer Larry Doby, who broke the color barrier in the American League. After closing in 1997 and falling into disrepair, Hinchliffe underwent an extensive renovation and proudly reopened in 2023 — preserving its legacy for future generations. Through these voices, you’ll hear firsthand what Hinchliffe means to the people of Paterson and to American history.
The Pride of Paterson is an oral history of Hinchliffe Stadium produced by Montclair State University professors Thomas E. Franklin and Kelly Whiteside, with support from a grant by the New Jersey Historical Commission and in partnership with the Charles J. Muth Museum and Montclair State University.

Associate producers include Montclair graduates Izzy Conklin, Dani Mazariegos, Gloria Perez, and Ryan Tullio.
